Sugar Hill Veterans Memorial Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held on the 75th Anniversary of D-Day
(Sugar Hill, GA, May 22, 2019)— The City of Sugar Hill will host an official groundbreaking ceremony for its new Veterans Memorial Plaza on June 6th, 2019, at 9 a.m.
What: Sugar Hill residents and city officials will be present to celebrate breaking ground on the City of Sugar Hill’s new Veterans Memorial, a $1.4 million project undertaken to honor those in Sugar Hill and abroad who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this country. The new Memorial includes hardscape plaza space, a water feature, an eternal flame, and monuments for the six US Military branches.
When: June 6th, 2019; 9 a.m.
Where: The event will be held at the intersection of W. Broad Street and Church Street across from Sugar Hill City Hall. 5029 West Broad St. NE, Sugar Hill, GA 30518
Who: Sugar Hill Mayor Steve Edwards, Sugar Hill City Council, city staff, and Sugar Hill residents will be on site for the ceremony.
Why: The groundbreaking ceremony for the Veterans Memorial will take place on the 75th anniversary of D-Day (the Allies’ attack on Normandy Beach in World War II), and will serve as a lasting tribute to service men and women from every branch who have given so much in service to others and to their country. Because we cannot thank these brave men and women personally for their sacrifice, we will offer this memorial as a display of gratitude and remembrance.
The Sugar Hill Veterans Memorial Plaza, located across from City Hall at the intersection of W. Broad Street and Church Street, is the city’s attempt to honor the brave men and women both from Sugar Hill and throughout the United States who have given so much to their country. The Memorial Plaza includes monuments for the six service branches of the military, a water feature, and an eternal flame, arranged on a walkable hardscape plaza space. Dedicated on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy Beach during World War II, the Veterans Memorial Plaza testifies of the City of Sugar Hill’s endless gratitude for the armed forces and for the freedoms that their sacrifices have provided us.
