On July 16, 1969 at 9:32 a.m. at NASA’s Launch Pad 39A, Apollo 11’s five F1 engines on NASA’s Saturn –V AS-506 rocket ignited launching three Americans and the dreams of humankind on a historic mission to the moon. Tuesday, July 16, 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 launch. In celebration of the momentous moment in history the U.S. Space & Rocket Center plans to set a new Guinness World Record by simultaneously launching 5,000 Estes rockets in Huntsville, Alabama. The Center is also encouraging communities and organizations around the world to participate in a global rocket launch.
Sugar Hill is excited to partner with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, on a Global Rocket Launch to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. On July 16, 2019, the City of Sugar Hill will join communities, organizations, and individuals from around the world to launch model rockets in honor of the mission in which Commander Neil Armstrong took his “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center invites communities,organizations, and individuals around the world to join in the celebrations. Sugar Hill will join in with a community rocket launch event planed for July 16th followed by a matinee showing of the new “Apollo 11” film in the Eagle at 3 p.m. The movie will be free to those who participate in the rocket launch and $2 for those who don’t.
