Gwinnett County Emergency Management officials have issued a winter weather awareness statement indicating that a wintry mix of rain and snow will impact much of north Georgia this evening and into Friday. The rain or rain/snow mix should begin after midnight tonight through Friday afternoon, with some accumulation possible. Due to the warm ground as well as surface temperatures remaining above freezing, most, if not all of the accumulation will be in grassy areas and on elevated surfaces. This storm system should leave our area by Saturday morning; highest chance of accumulation is after midnight tonight through 2pm Friday. Be cautious after the system moves through the area as wet roads and bridges may freeze with the colder temperatures behind the weather front. Please stay tuned to your local weather sources for more updates during the next 24 hours.
