Over the past several years, the Sugar Hill has actively engaged its citizens to determine what investments or improvements would make Sugar Hill a better place to live. The city now boasts world class parks, a gorgeous city hall, a unique community plaza, splash park and first-class events. The award-winning Bowl Amphitheater has hosted Travis Tritt, The Mavericks, Kool & The Gang, Third Eye Blind, Blues Traveler and more. The recently completed streetscape has also laid the foundation for future investments downtown. The next move is to create a live, work, play environment in the downtown. For the past few years, the city has systematically acquired strategic properties preparing for this moment. Mayor Steve Edwards has said, “There is an art to building a city. This strategic and methodical process is like a game of chess where there are nearly limitless outcomes to consider when making a major move”.
Sugar Hill made that strategic move in the summer of 2016 when the city broke ground on what would become the catalyst to downtown growth, the E Center. The E Center boasts a 387-seat performing arts theater, gymnasium along with 43,000 sq. ft. of restaurant, retail, office and meeting space, all overlooking The Bowl. The facility is slated to open in mid-2018.
Talk of the E Center sparked the interest of several investors. Breaking ground in 2017, the Nexus will bring high-end condos, retail, and restaurant space. There is also interest in bringing a 4-star hotel and conference center into downtown Sugar Hill. Capping off the downtown will be a multi-story, urban style senior living facility that will include independent living, assisted living as well as memory care and deluxe cottages.
